Watch: Vice Ganda: It’s Showtime Cannot Beat Eat Bulaga, Stop Social Media Word War (Video)
Vice Ganda finally admitted on Saturday, October 24, 2015 that It’s Showtime can’t beat Eat Bulaga, and asked fans of both shows to stop the social media word war. The host-comedian made his statement on the same day that the AlDub ‘Sa Tamang Panahon’ was happening live at jam-packed 55,000-seater, Philippine Arena. Watch Vice Ganda’s speech on the video below.
At the start of his speech, Vice Ganda said that despite waking up not feeling well, but noted that he is happy and thankful because their noontime show, ‘It’s Showtime’ has lasted for six years. He added the show has changed his life, emphasizing that he is not bitter and sad. He called the show as blessing for him and to all their followers who remained loyal to them.
Vice Ganda also recalled the time when ABS-CBN management told them to be on the noontime show from a morning show. It’s Showtime first aired in 2009 before Willie Revillame’s Wowowee. After the latter went off air, it was replacement by two short-lived shows, Pilipinas Win Na Win, Happy Yipee Yehey!, and eventually It’s Showtime.
“E, kasi lalagay ninyo kami sa noontime, di naman namin kayang talunin ang Eat Bulaga. Di ba? Kahit pagsama-samahin namin ang powers namin dito at magtitiwarik ho ako dito, di ho namin kayang talunin ang Eat Bulaga…Sa simula pa lang po, talo po kami. Itinataas po namin ang bandera nila dahil sila ay aming mga idolo at mga modelo.” Vice Ganda said.
(But if you will place us on noontime, we cannot beat Eat Bulaga. Even if we combine all our powers and I will do some acrobatic acts, we still can’t beat Eat Bulaga. Right from the start, we already lost. We are waving their flag high because they are our idols and role models.)
Vice Ganda said their bosses told them It’s Showtime was placed on noontime not to compete against Eat Bulaga, but instead to join them in making people happy. He noted that this is the reason why since Day One until now, all the hosts have no bitterness, anger or sadness in their hearts. That day also marked the celebration of It’s Showtime 6th anniversary.
Later, Vice Ganda commented on bashers saying why It’s Showtime is still not surrendering to Eat Bulaga, saying that the show shall continue as long as they still have followers. On the last part of his speech, he asked netizens not to fight as to which show is better. The ‘It’s Showtime host is referring to the hate comments on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
Many It’s Showtime fans said they were touched by Vice Ganda’s humility. However, some netizens said that his speech is somehow contrary to his earlier statement, when he said that Eat Bulaga vs It’s Showtime is a healthy competition. That time, Angelica Jane Yap, aka Pastillas Girl is being considered as a strong rival of Maine Mendoza, aka Yaya Dub.
Speaking of Maine Mendoza, she and Alden Richards finally has their first holding hands, first hug and first dance that day, during the no-commercial break TV telecast of AlDub’s ‘Sa Tamang Panahon’. The said show also featured the exciting performances of Lola Nidora (Wally Bayola), Jose Manalo (Lola Tinidora) and Paolo Ballesteros (Lola Tidora).
Tito, Vic and Joey, as well as other hosts also performed on stage. Wally Bayola was applauded for his long and sensible monologue and immediate transformation from Lola Tinidora to Duhrizz to Rihanna and back to Lola Tindora. Eat Bulaga has raised a total of P14 million from ticket sales which will be used to build school libraries, dubbed as AlDub libraries.
Eat Bulaga also created a new Twitter record, after the hashtag #ALDubEBTamangPanahon was tweeted 39.5 million times, beating its previous hashtag #AlDubEBForLove that had 25.6 million tweets. But more importantly, AlDub also beat the hashtag #WorldCup back in July 8, 2014 that had 35.6 million tweets during the semi-final match between Brazil and Germany.
