Watch: ‘US Secretary of State Punches Philippine President’ in US TV Series, PH Embassy Protests (Video)

A TV series in the US titled ‘Madam Secretary’ featured a scene where a fictional US Secretary of State punched a Philippine president in his nose. Because of this, the Philippine Embassy in the US protested to the network where the particular episode will be aired. Watch the trailer video of the controversial ‘Madam Secretary’ episode below.

In the Season 3 Episode 15 “Break in Diplomacy” of ‘Madam Secretary,’ to be aired this Sunday, March 12, Tea Leoni plays the role of US Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord, while Joel dela Fuente played the role of Philippine President Datu Andrada. In a scene, the US secretary punched the president, who tried to make improper advances to her.

The Philippine president was later seen having a bloody nose. Shortly, Secretary McCord was seen speaking to her husband played by Tim Daly, saying, “I clobbered a world leader instead of saving a major regional agreement.” This controversial scene is now being protested by the Philippine Embassy in the US, which immediately released a statement.

“The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. wrote to today, 06 March 2017, to strongly protest the highly negative depiction of a character purported to be the Philippine President on the next episode of the TV series Madam Secretary. While Madam Secretary is a work of fiction, it tracks and mirrors current events.” The statement said.

“It is, therefore, inevitable that its depiction of world leaders will have an impact on how its audience views the real personages and the countries they represent. This highly negative portrayal of our Head of State not only casts doubt on the respectability of the Office of the Philippine President but also denigrates that way our nation navigates foreign affairs.” It added.

“It also tarnishes the Philippines’ longstanding advocacy for women’s rights and gender equality. In view of the injurious effects that this program will have on the interests of the Philippines and the Filipino people, the Philippine Embassy urgently calls on CBS to take the necessary corrective actions.” The Philippine Embassy in the US further said.
