OPM icon Rey Valera literally falls from this chair while Rachel Gabreza from Metro Manila was singing ‘I am Changing,’ her winning piece on the daily round of ‘Tawag Ng Tanghalan’ at It’s Showtime this Tuesday, January 19, 2016. Watch the video below, and be amazed on how the latest winner of the singing competition wowed everyone, especially judge Rey Valera.
On her first performance, Rachel Gabreza sang ‘Go The Distance’ from the animated movie “Hercules.” And because of her stunning performance, she earned a standing ovation form the crowd, and the judges as well. The two other daily contestants received a ‘gong’ and so, she instantly won to challenge the 3-time defending champion, Jessa Montefalcon.
For second performance, Rachel Gabreza gave her version of Jennifer Hudson’s “I Am Changing.” Her performance received a standing ovation from judges Yeng Constantino and K Brosas, who removed her shoe and jokingly throw it on the stage. Rey Valera, who acts as the “Punong Hurado” seems to attempt to stand also from his chair, but suddenly fell on the floor.
And although the incident was short and fast, the camera was focused on Rey Valera. You can see that he is still smiling, as a man helps him to stand up and sit again on his chair. The crowd went wild, cheering for Gabreza as she finishes the song. As expected, Vice Ganda cracked a joke about Valera’s misfortune, but the host-comedian did not mention his name.
But in case you don’t know, this is not the first time that Rachel Gabreza sang ‘I am Changing’ live on stage. On January 15, 2012, it was winning piece when she won as World Gamefowl Expo Biritan Singing Contest first runner-up, held at World Trade Center, Pasay City. In 2009, she joined ‘Are You The Next Big Star?’ aired at GMA Network. However, she was eliminated early.
For Jessa Montefalcon, she sang ‘Maghintay Ka Lamang.” Her performance was also good, and the judges were impressed. Nevertheless, Rachel Gabreza won with a whooping score of 99%. She also won P25,000 and will return tomorrow, Wednesday to defend her title. So far, the only semi-finalist of ‘Tawag Ng Tanghalan’ is Domindor Aviola from Davao Oriental.
