Tanauan City Mayor Antonio “Thony” Halili ordered seven suspected drug pushers to walk in the streets of the city while bearing the sign, “Ako’y drug pusher, wag tularan” (I’m a drug pusher, don’t be like me). The so-called ‘walk of shame‘ was made this Wednesday, May 18, where three of the suspects are minors. Watch video below.
According to a post at Tanauan City’s Hope Facebook page, the notorious drug pusher suspects, who walked only in the street but also inside the local public market, were from Barangay Poblacion 4 and other barangays in the city. The people who saw the ‘walk of shame’ were said to be happy because their children will be safer from drugs.
This is after Mayor Thony Halili invited some suspected drug pushers and users to his office and talked to them personally. Interesting, it has been the habit of the mayor to personally talk to these bad elements in his city. But this time, he gave an ultimatum that if they will not change for the better, he will submit their names to Malacañang.

This is in line with the directive of presumptive President Rody Duterte to PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) to submit to him the list of known drug pushers in the country. Later, the incoming president said that he may recruit armed civilian auxiliaries to drugs in barangays if the current law enforcement agencies are not enough.
Meanwhile, Commission of Human Rights (CHR) Officer Jacqueline de Guia said they have confirmed that 3 of the 7 suspects who did the ‘walk of shame’ are minors. She told DZMM that one of them is a 14-year old girl, while two are 17 years old. The CHR condemned the style of punishment, noting that the suspects can file a complaint.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that Mayor Halili has ordered the walk of shame. Just last month, he ordered the same to a rapist suspect who admitted raping three at least three women in Barangay Balete. In 2012, he also ordered similar punishment to a man who stole dried fish inside the local market, and was heavily criticized by CHR.
