Watch: Sheryl Cruz Explains Why She’s Not Supporting Grace Poe for President in 2016 (Video)
Local actress Sheryl Cruz speaks up and explained why she will not support her cousin, Senator Grace Poe who will run for president in 2016. The former child actress also commented on the allegations that she is being harassed to keep silent and is allegedly used by other presidentiables for their advantage. Below is the video of ABS-CBN while she is being interviewed by reporters.
Featured on Bandila this Tuesday, September 22, Sheryl Cruz was asked by reporters about Sen Grace Poe running for president in 2016. The interview happened at the press conference held at Manila Hotel that night for the upcoming “Felix Manalo” film, where she plays as Sanang, a relative of the Manalos. However, the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) did not allow her to be asked during the press conference to avoid politics being mixed with the movie.
According to Cruz, she is not against Grace Poe for president but insisted that the latter is not yet to fit to run in the 2016 presidential election. She emphasized that she has no plans to shame her cousin, and that she is speaking as a mother and a taxpayer of the country. The 41-year old actress also denied that presidential candidates Vice President Jejomar Binay and Liberal Party standard bearer Mar Roxas are just using her.
Sheryl Cruz reminded reporters that she supported Grace Poe all the way when the latter ran for senator in 2013. Nevertheless, she said she thinks her cousin needs more experience before she can run for president, adding that 2022 may be a better year for her. She also emphasized that she loves Grace Poe and her aunt Susan Roces (Poe’s adoptive mother, wife of the late Action King, Fernando Poe, Jr., and the sister of her mother, Rosemarie Sonora).
However, Sheryl Cruz said that everyone is entitled to their own personal opinion, adding even Senator Sergio Osmeña who knows politics better than her is also not in favor of Grace Poe running for president in 2016. On the last part, she said she willing to support any presidentiable whom she think is qualified to be the next leader of the country.
As of posting, Senator Grace Poe has not commented on this opposition statement against her candidacy. Last week, Sheryl Cruz was interviewed by Manila Standard saying that, “She’s not yet ready for the task, for the big responsibility. My cousin’s a neophyte. Yes, it’s nice to have fresh faces in our political arena, but it’s best to hone what you have [first]. Given time, I know she’ll be very good in what she’s doing, but just not right now. Probably in 2022.”
Senator Grace Poe announced her presidentiable bid in 2016 last Wednesday, September 16, while Senator Chiz Escudero announced the next day that he will run for vice president, supporter her. The Poe-Escudero tandem in 2016 is under Partido Pilipinas, the coalition political party of Nacionalista Party (NP) and the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).
