Watch: Pres Duterte Jokes, Apologizes to VP Robredo, Name Missed in PMA Rites 2017 Speech (Video)
President Rodrigo Duterte apologized to Vice President Leni Robredo, this Sunday, March 12 during his speech for commencement exercises of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 2017. This is after he failed to mention her name at the beginning of his speech, as acknowledgment to the VIPs who were present in that event. Watch video below.
“I apologize, Ma’am, it was not done. Commander, could you give the tikas-pahinga? Ang nagsulat Ma’am dito, hindi ka isinali. Bugbugin na lang natin. I’d like to apologize and acknowledge the presence of the beautiful lady, the Vice President of the Republic. Sorry Ma’am ha.” President Duterte said, as the audience could help but laugh at his joke.
Earlier on the same event, President Duterte greeted VP Robredo, despite their political differences. In fact, they smiled at each other, and had a very short conversation after a polite handshake. which was not heard in public. But contrary to the past PMA rites, they sat one seat apart, with Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana sitting between them.
President Duterte, being the commander in chief of the Armed Forces was the guest of honor of the said event. He presented the presidential saber to Cadet First Class Rovi Martinez, who ranked first among the 167 graduating cadets. Meanwhile, VP Robredo presented the vice presidential saber to class salutatorian, Cadet First Class Philip Viscaya.
Apparently, this was the last time that the public saw Duterte and Robredo together since January 31. That time, they both attended tha Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council held at Malacañang Palace. The president then reportedly still cracked some jokes about VP Robredo’s knees. But this time, she did not take it as “inappropriate.’
As we all know, President Duterte appointed VP Robredo as chairperson of Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) via a phone call last July. But in December, she resigned from her post, and said that the president has advised her not to anymore attend cabinet meetings. The said order was made only through a text message.
As months went by, President Duterte and VP Robredo appear to be more separated from each other in terms of politics. Robredo has been very vocal in opposing the approval of Duterte for the hero’s burial of the late President Ferdinand Marcos. On the other hand, the president accused the Liberal Party (LP) of planning to oust him from office.
