Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach wins the Miss Universe 2015 title this Sunday, December 10, 2015 (Monday morning, Manila). But before she was finally declared winner, host Steve Harvey made a huge mistake when he announced that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez won the pageant. He later corrected himself, and everyone was shocked, Watch the video below.
“Ok folks. I have to apologize.” Harvey told the huge crowd at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas., while Miss Columbia is walking and waving after the said host announced that she was the Miss Universe winner. “The first runner-up is Colombia.” Harvey added, and the camera focused on the Miss Philippines candidate, who was obviously shocked.
Pia Wurtzbach, who was standing on stage beside second runner-up winner, Miss USA Olivia Jordan, couldn’t believe the she won the contest. “Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines.” Steve Harvey declared. But despite the confusion, she walked on the center stage while covering her mouth and stood beside Miss Colombia, who is the official first second runner-up.
“Listen folks, let me just take control of this. This is exactly what’s on the card. I will take responsibility for this. It was my mistake. It was on the card. Horrible mistake. It is my mistake.” Harvey explains, while showing the card to the camera revealing that Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach is really the Miss Universe 2015 winner.
“Still a great night. Please don’t hold it against the ladies.” The ashamed host-comedian added, as Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega continues to tap the back of Miss Columbia apparently to console her. She later removed the Miss Universe crown from the the head of Miss Columbis and transfer it to the real Miss Universe 2015 winner, Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.
“I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible. Secondly, I’d like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well. Again it was an honest mistake. I don’t want to take away from this amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful contestants. They were all amazing.” Steve Harvey tweeted.
For the final Q&A, the question was Why should you be the next Miss Universe?” Miss USA Olivia Jordan was first one to answer, followed by Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez Miss Universe Philippines was the last candidate to answer and said, “I want to show the world, the universe rather, that I am confidently beautiful with a heart.”
Meanwhile, the entire Philippines is rejoicing for the latest victory of another Filipino. Pia Wurtzbach is 26 years old, and has a German father. After winning Binibining Pilipinas 2015 representating Cagayan de Oro, she is only the third Miss Universe winner from the country after 42 years. Margarita Moran won in 1973, while Gloria Diaz won in 1969.
