Miss Earth PH Imelda Schweighart apologized Monday, October 31,for giving negative comments against Miss Earth 2016 winner, Katherine Espin, from Ecuador. At the same time, the losing beauty candidate from the Philippines also resigned from her post. Schweighart’s controversial remarks was caught on video and went viral on Facebook. Watch below.

“Yung nanalo peke ilong, peke baba, peke boobs! Miss Earth, dapat natural. (The winner has fake nose, fake chin, and fake breasts. Miss Earth should be natural.)” Imelda Schweighart told her fans, who screamed with her afterwards. The Miss Earth 2016 beauty pageant was held at the Mall of Asia Arena last Saturday, October 29.

Shortly after the pageant, Imelda Schweighart posted a video on her official Facebook page, showing her wearing a gown that she was supposed to wear. But in an interview via CNN Philippines, the Filipino-German beauty said that she was offended when the gown assigned to her was given to Espin, the winner. Nevertheless, she apologized for her misbehavior.

“If it’s a crime to tell the truth, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend Miss Ecuador…I don’t know her enough but she was my roommate,” Schweighart told CNN Philippines anchor Pinky Webb. However, she claimed that Espin herself admitted having undergone into cosmetic surgery. She also criticized the person who uploaded her video, and defended her actions.

“Someone took a video from afar and posted online. A side of me that everyone has…You put a side of a person’s integrity out there. What is that?Hindi makabayan ‘yon. (That’s not being patriotic).” Schweighart said. The 21-year old beauty from Puerto Princesa, Palawan noted that at that time, she was asking support from her fans for her loss.

Meanwhile, Carousel Productions Executive Vice President Lorraine Schuck said that Imelda Schweighart has voluntarily resigned from her post as Miss Earth Philippines, adding that they and the The Miss Earth Organization have already accepted her resignation letter. Miss Earth Philippines did not make it to the Top 16 of Miss Earth 2016.

Early this month, Imelda Schweighart was also heavily criticized for saying that “Our president (Duterte) is doing Hitler stuff in the Philippines.” She was then talking to Miss Earth Austria Kimberly Budinsky. The original video was posted on her Facebook page, but was later removed. She later apologized, saying that she is also a Duterte supporter.
