Watch: Mayor Rody Duterte Jokes, Sings, Dances at GGV with Vice Ganda (Video)
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo ‘Rody’ Duterte is known for being a tough leader with hard-hitting statements. But this Sunday, July 12, the public watched his soft side when he was a guest at GGV (Gandang Gabi Vice) at ABS-CBN. Below is the partial video of GGV episode of the interview with Mayor Duterte, where showed his singing and dancing skills, along with Vice Ganda. He also cracked some jokes.
On the first part of the interview, Mayor Duterte asked Vice Ganda where he got his hair, adding that he also want the same jig. The host-comedian somehow flirted with the mayor when he removed his bullet-proof vest. The candid mayor told him to stop, joking that he used to be gay but has been reformed.
As you can see on the video below, Mayor Rody Duterte sings “Ikaw” and even went to the audience like a matinee idol. He seems to dedicate the song to a beautiful woman he spotted in the crowd. Vice Ganda did not seem to expect the scene, especially when the 70-year old mayor made a local gesture (mano), instead of kissing her.
Later, Vice Ganda requested Mayor Duterte to show his dancing moves, which the latter initially hesitated. But when the comedian told him it’s the only way that the beautiful girl would want him, the mayor readily agreed. Duterte danced to “Nae Nae” and “Twerk It Like Miley”, and the audience gave him a round of applause.
Vice Ganda also showed him photos of former president Gloria Arroyo, former Commission on Human Rights (CHR) chair Etta Rosales, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, whom he said they went to the same school in San Beda. Mayor Duterte jokes, “I will transfer to another class if we were classmates that time.”
Annulled with his ex-wife, Elizabeth Abellana Zimmerman, Mayor Duterte admitted he has 1 wife and 3 girlfriends at the same time, saying that he has no physical preference when it comes to women. As part of the fun, he said he plans to add more, this time a gay. He also said that he will protect Vice Ganda if ever someone hurt him.
“You know, you only live once. If it is good, then once is enough.” Mayor Duterte said seriously, adding that people die many times in their lifetime, and that one of them is when we have heartaches. Vice Ganda melted afterwards, saying that the mayor’s statement really makes sense. He later said Duterte is a real human being.
Vice Ganda mentioned three presidentiables – VP Jojoemar Binay, DILG Secretary Mar Roxas, and Senator Grace Poe, who has not yet announce if she will run for president in 2016. Duterte said the three of them are “good,” but he will not endorse any of them because all of them are his friends. In the end, he described himself as “better.”
On the serious side, Mayor Duterte told Vice Ganda that he is in favor of same-sex marriage, emphasizing that everyone deserves to be happy. For his strict leadership and tough activities in Davao City, he said he was only doing his job. And for the nth time, Mayor Duterte stressed out that he has no plans of running for president in 2016.
