Watch: Huge Explosion at Roxas Night Market in Roxas Avenue, Davao City (Video)
A huge explosion occurred at Roxas Night Market along Roxas Ave, Davao City this Friday, September 2, near Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU). According to the official AdDU Twitter account, the incident happened at around 10:20 pm, as it warns all students to keep calm and to stay away from the area. As noted by AdDU, the ground floor of their Community Center was temporarily used as clinic to immediately treat the wounded victims. Initial reports say that there are at least 5 people dead, while Jasper Magoncia of DXAB Radyo Patrol reported that 21 injured people were rushed to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for treatment.
A certain RJ Morrell Tejano is believed to be the first one to post a live streaming video on Facebook right after the bomb explosion, showing the arrival of emergency response team and people trying to look for a safe place to hide. Later, the Davao City Police Office announced that 30 people have already been brought to the SPMC.
As posted at the City Government of Davao Facebook page, Davao City Mayor Paolo Duterte (President Rodrigo Duterte’s son) advised the bar owners to close their businesses and the public to go to their respective homes, as investigation about the incident is still going on. The Roxas Night Market is filled with food stores and ukay-ukay.
For the latest development, Presidential Spokesperson Ernie Abella announced that there are now at least 10 casualties and at least 60 people were injured. As of posting, it is not yet confirmed if the explosion was caused by bomb or LPG (liquid petroleum gas) tank. Nevertheless, we a Taho News sympathize with all the victims.
