Watch: How Sen Leila de Lima is Trying Hard to Act Like Sen Miriam Defensor Santiago (Video)
“There is only one Miriam Santiago, no one can replace her.” Senator Leila de Lima said in a speech back in 2015 when she was still running for senator. But now that she eventually won, it appears that Sen. De Lima is copying the style of the Sen. Santiago, who passed away on her sleep last September 29. Here’s some reasons why I have the right to say it.
First of all, we all know that the late, former senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago is a super tough lady right from the start. Not to mention having the most number of bills authored and passed in the Senate. Despite losing two presidential elections and battling Stage 4 cancer, Senator Miriam ran for president again this 2016, and fought until the end.
Yes, Leila de Lima earned my trust, and she was on the second to the last on my senatorial list. And yes, I regret voting for her. But no, I’m not saying that I believe that she is connected with illegal drugs inside the Bilibid, and other allegations against her. I reserve my opinion on this matter, once the supposed evidences pointing for her are completed.
However, I can’t help but notice that de Lima is copying some techniques of Miriam Santiago. Back in September 2014, Sen. Santiago walked out of the Commission on Appointments (CA) hearing when Ilocos Norte Representative Rodolfo Farinas questioned the absence of the quorum. On the hand, Sen. De Lima walked out, not once but twice.
Sen. Santiago is also known for her speaking engagements in schools and universities. Recently, Sen. De Lima spoke on Human Rights and Democracy at St. Scholastica’s College, Manila. This Fri, October 7, the troubled neophyte senator is set to deliver a speech about the same topic at Adamson University. So where next, San Beda College?
But here’s the kicker. Sen. De Lima is now into ‘hugot’ lines, too.”Nababawasan ang turista, kagagawan ni De Lima. Hihina ang piso, dahil yan kay De Lima. Kulang na lang isisi ay kay De Lima ang pahihiwalay nina Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.” Sen de Lima said during her speech at St. Scholastica’s College. Sorry, but I don’t find her joke funny at all.
So to Sen. Leila de Lima, let me borrow the ever-famous and unforgettable line of Ms. Cherie Gil – “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!”
