President Rodrigo Duterte this Tuesday, July 5 named five police generals as allegedly involved in illegal drug trade. The bold revelation from the president was made during his speech at Philippine Air Force’s 69th anniversary at Clark Air Base, in Pampanga. Two of them are reportedly supporters of Liberal Party (LP) president bet, Mar Roxas. Watch CNN Philippines video below.
According to President Duterte, the said PNP (Philippine National Police) officials are Gen. Marcelo Garbo, Gen. Vicente Loot, Gen. Bernardo Diaz of Region 11, Gen. Joel Pagdilao of the NCRPO (National Capital Region Police Office) and Gen. Edgardo Tinio of QCPD (Quezon City Police District). He immediately ordered them to be relieved from their respective posts.
“I do not necessarily humiliate people. But dumating ako sa position na to and I say, I have a sacred position. It is my moral duty, my obligation that you should know what is happening to the country. Nandito na ko so gagawin ko na ang dapat kong gawin (I’m now her so I will do what I should be doing).” President Duterte said on his speech.
“As [of] this time, I order them relieved from their assignments and report to the director general [Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa],” “I would like to talk them and certainly, I would expect the [National Police Commission to do their thing.” Duterte added, noting that these police generals suspected drug lor protectors have committed treason.
Garbo, who retired in March 2014, acted as PNP Deputy Director General, or the No. 2 man in the police force. Based on the news report by Philstar last April 3, he, and four active PNP officials were spotted by media in a bar at the Novotel hotel at Araneta Center, having a meeting with unnamed LP officials while wearing civilian clothes.
On the other hand, Loot (a member of Philippine Military Academy Class 1982) is the newly elected mayor of Daangbantayan, in Cebu. Tinio belongs to Class 1985 while Diaz and Pagdilao are “mistahs” in Class 1984. President Duterte emphasized that all of them had their education in the expenses of the taxes from the Filipino people.
