Watch: Direk Cathy Garcia Apologizes for Cursing at ‘Forevermore’ Extra, but Defends Actions (Video)

‘Forevermore’ director Cathy Garcia-Molina admitted cursing at extras (bit role players) of the teleserye, especially to Alvin Campomanes, who sent a complaint letter to the network. The controversial director also apologized for her actions. However, she defended herself and explained her side of the story in an exclusive interview by Boy Abunda posted only in the web.

As ABS-CBN earlier reported, the network will be taking actions on the complaints of two ‘Forevermore’ extras, Alvin and her girlfriend, Rossellyn Domingo. This is after Rossellyn posted a lengthy open letter to Direk Cathy Garcia, explaining their sad experiences from her back in 2014. Alvin played Makoy, while Rossellyn portrayed Celia, his wife on the show.

On his complaint letter to Ma. Socorro V. Vidanes, the Head of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp, Alvin Campomanes said he is a professor at the University of the Philippines Manila, where he graduated as cum laude. He admitted having no experience in acting when he was among the extras of ‘Forevermore.’ But still, he said he couldn’t take the cursing of Direk Cathy Garcia to him and other extras. Meanwhile, Direk Cathy Garcia told Boy Abunda that she is sorry if she cursed at ‘Forevermore’ extras. The ‘A Second Chance’ director also admitted that cursing at anyone is wrong, but it has different meaning in the movie industry. She said she is doing this with a good intention – to motivate the actors and to make the show better, and not to insult them.

“Dito sa industriya natin, hindi ko sinasabi na itinatama natin ang pagmumura. Pero dito sa atin may ibang kahulugan ang pag mumura. Hindi na siya mura to degrade, to humiliate or to insult anyone.”

“And yet hindi ko itinatama. Alam kong nagkamali ako. Kayang-kaya kong mag-apologize. Kayang-kaya ko, hindi niya pala alam ang lengwahe ng industriyang ito. Kung nalaman ko lang, right away I would have gone to him and said, ‘sorry hindi ka pala sanay.’”

In addition, Direk Cathy Garcia noted she started from scratch before she became a movie director. She noted there were good people who generously taught her, but admitted that she also have been humiliated and cursed. And when asked if her actions against Alvin Campomanes have changed if she knew all along that he was a UP professor, she said, “No.”
