Vice President Leni Robredo is silently preparing to become the next president, as plans to oust President Rodrigo Duterte from office is now in progress. This is according to veteran journalist Philip Lustre Jr. (Philip Jr Lustre on Facebook), who is known to be a huge Duterte critic. He revealed the information on a reply to a post on Facebook.
“I was told that Leni has been advised to prepare for the transition, I don’t know the details though…neither do I have any confirmation.” Philip Jr Lustre wrote on Facebook as a reply to a post of Arthur Martinez. The screenshot of their messages was posted at Thinking Pinoy Facebook page this Tuesday, September 6, along with his photo with Mar Roxas.
Back in September 2015, Philip Jr Lustre claimed that then-Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has cancer of the throat, and that his health condition could worsen. On his Facebook post, he said that the information came from a reliable source who was not authorized to speak about it. However, it later turned out to be just another rumor.

Nevertheless, the rumors of planning to remove President Duterte is not new. In early May this year just days before the presidential elections, then-senator and vice presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr accused the Liberal Party (LP) of having a Plan B, that is to overthrow Duterte in case he and Leni Robredo will be both elected.

According to Marcos, fellow senator and independent vice presidential candidate Antonio Trillanes IV threatened to impeach Duterte once the latter has assumed office. That time, Leni Robredo has suddenly led the vice presidential survey, with Marcos following as second. Nevertheless, LP officials and Robredo categorically denied the allegations.

As of posting, VP Leni Robredo and LP have not yet commented on Lustre’s statement regarding the alleged transition. Meanwhile, President Duterte is now in Laos, attending the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summit, to have a meeting with fellow Asian leaders and US President Barack Obama. This is his first international trip since he was elected president.
