VP Leni Robredo to Return to the Philippines, 2 Days Ahead of Schedule

Vice President Leni Robredo is set to return to the Philippines, two days ahead of her scheduled comeback. This is after spending the Christmas season in the US to attend a family reunion, as admitted by her spokesperson, Georgina Hernandez. Apparently, the public has been asking her whereabouts when Typhoon Nina struck the Bicol region.

“A highly-placed source informed me that that VP Leni Robredo is leaving the the United States on 01 January 2016, or 2 days ahead of schedule. She’s currently on board her Cathay Pacific flight from JFK to MNL, with one layover at HK. She should arrive in Manila either tomorrow or on 03 January 2016.” A statement reads at Thinking Pinoy Facebook.

December 25, Christmas Day, Typhoon Nina made a landfall over Catanduanes in Bicol region.Storm warning signals were raised in 38 areas, and hundreds of families left their homes and spent Christmas at evacuation centers. Several local and international flights have been canceled, particularly those leaving and arriving Naga, Virac, and Catarman.

But while concerned government agencies such as National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) coordinated with LGUs (local government units) for the distribution of relief goods to the typhoon victims, VP Leni Robredo was said to be also helping in her own way.

Vice President Leni Robredo has been monitoring and directing the Office of the Vice President (OVP) to work with regional officials and agencies in setting up local relief centers for immediate emergency response on the ground…She will be going home to Naga as soon as she arrives,” Georgina Hernandez said in a statement at that time.

Robredo, who was once a congresswoman of the thrird district of Camarines Sur, ran for vice president in the 2016 election under the Liberal Party (LP). She is being rumored to be having a huge part in the alleged plan to oust President Rodrigo Duterte this 2017, but she categorically denied it. The 52-year old vice president is also said to be pregnant.
