VP Leni Robredo Meets Loida Nicolas-Lewis in New York While Typhoon Nina is Slamming Bicol Region?

Vice President Leni Robredo met with anti-Duterte billionaire Loida Nicolas-Lewis in New York, while Typhoon Nina is slamming her hometown in Bicol region this December 25, Christmas Day. This is the speculation of many netizens who are now wondering why she did not earlier tell the public that she has plans to spend Christmas holidays in the US.

“The Vice President travelled for a family reunion to the United States for the break, which was planned more than a year ago. She will be going home to Naga as soon as she arrives.” VP Robredo’s spokesperson Georgina Hernandez Hernandez said in a statement on Monday. The local media had no hint that the vice president has already left the country.

“Vice President Leni Robredo has been monitoring and directing the Office of the Vice President (OVP) to work with regional officials and agencies in setting up local relief centers for immediate emergency response on the ground.” She added, emphasizing that the OVP has been coordinating with its partners and various groups to help Typhoon Nina victims.

This Monday, the OVP launched “Task Force Tindog Bikol,” a relief operations assistance that would help dispatch the relief goods and donations to the affected areas, particularly in her hometown, Naga City. On the other hand, VP Robredo used her social media accounts to update her activities to help Typhoon Nina victims despite being in the US.

Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte was working on Christmas Day. Instead of simply enjoying his time with his family the whole day, he visited some survivors of bombing that happened near Sto. Nino Church in Midsayap, North Cotabato. A total of 18 persons were injured while attending Christmas Eve Mass last Saturday, December 24.

But while VP Robredo’s supporters admire her effort to help, many netizens could not help but ask why she only admitted that she left the country when people started to look for her. But more importantly, why did she not reveal that she went to New York City, where Loida Nicolas-Lewis is based. Is she establishing plans to oust President Duterte this coming 2017?
