Typhoon Hagupit (Ruby) has made its landfall to the Philippines on Saturday night, December 6, 2014. Airports in Legazpi City, Albay, in Naga City, in Tacloban City, Leyte as well as in Calbayog, Samar are now closed. As of posting, a total of 92 domestic flights have already been canceled. However, specific details are not available.
According to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) for its latest weather update, Typhoon Ruby landed at 9:15 pm over Dolores town in Eastern Samar. The agency noted that Hagupit might have at least six landfalls, with the second landfall made over Cataingan, Masbate.
This Sunday morning (December 7), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced that over 2,400 passengers are now stranded. The Philippine Coast Guard said that these passengers are in National Capital Region (NCR), Southern Tagalog, Eastern Visayas, and Bicol.
The NDRRMC added that Smart and Globe networks are now down in some parts of Eastern Samar and Leyte. For power outages, the current affected areas are few towns in Quezon, and major parts of Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Leyte. Over 500,000 people are now living n temporary shelters.
At 9 am, today, Sunday, PAGASA announced that the eye of Typhoon Hagupit was spotted at 75km West of Catbalogan, Samar or at 80km Southeast of Masbate City, Masbate (11.9N, 124.2E). It has a maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.
Earlier, no work/classes (walang pasok) on Monday, December 8 and Tuesday, December 9 have been declared in affected areas. This includes Quezon, (classes suspended on Dec. 8, all levels) and Cavite, (classes suspended on Dec. 8 and Dec. 9, all levels). Further announcements are being expected.

Based on the 11 am Sunday forecast from PAGASA, Typhoon Ruby is expected to be at 20 km Southwest of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro or at 150 km South of Science Garden, Quezon City on Monday morning. PAGASA will release its next weather update at 5PM today, Sunday.
