Experts predicted that the number of OFWs will continue to increase in 2015. This is despite the fact many foreign companies will be putting up their manufacturing plants here in the country. This is why the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) continues to coordinate with other countries.
Based on the projection by the POEA, the most in-demand jobs abroad next year include domestic helpers, factory workers, sales and accounting staff, nurses and caregivers, artists and entertainers, administrative and managerial personnel, construction workers, and engineers and technicians.

Italy has always been in the 8th spot on the list of the POEA as one of the 10 countries in terms of job deployments from 2009 to 2013. But while the 2014 data has not yet been released, the data of 2013 is only 19,566, which is nearly half of the data in 2012. It is being predicted to decrease more in 2015 mainly due to increased tax and economic issues. Nevertheless, job vacancies are still available.
#9 South Korea
A recent job posting by the POEA showed that around 1,600 workers are needed in South Korea in 2015. These job vacancies include domestic helpers and skilled workers. This is part of the 2014 Employment Permit System (EPS) Roster, the country’s government-to-government hiring scheme for foreign workers. The Singaporean government also proposed a wage hike for some foreign workers.
#8 New Zealand (NZ)
Early this week, the POEA released a huge list of licensed recruitment agencies that have job vacancies in New Zealand. In a statement, POEA Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac emphasized that these jobs do not require placement fees, and are not considered as a government to government hiring agreement. Therefore, job applicants should apply directly on these job recruitment agencies.

Canada is one of the countries that now allow permanent residence for foreign workers. This is after the Canadian government released a list of eligible jobs under their redesigned Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) but with some requirements, such as one-year continuous full-time job experience. Meanwhile, there are various job vacancies available via direct hiring, including laborers and caregivers.
Taiwan is known for hiring OFWs that can work as production operators, machine operators, and other kinds of factory workers for electronic companies. On the other hand, there are also tons of job vacancies for domestic helpers and caregivers. Most of them do not require job applicants to pay for placement fees. Most of the times, the work permit is being settled by Taiwanese employers.
Qatar has been suffering from shortage of labor for years, making it always included in the list of countries that hire OFWs. The POEA has estimated that the demand for labor in Qatar in 2015 will reach to over 117,000. But while the job vacancies include caregivers, CAD operators, and oil and gas, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) said that domestic helpers are the most in demand.
#4 Hong Kong
Despite having an estimated 16,000 Filipino domestic helpers now in Hong Kong, there are still tons of job openings even for drivers, engineers, and many more. Nevertheless, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) is now prioritizing teachers who are employed in Hong Kong as maids to go back to teaching here in the country. Last September, 300 of them passed the special licensure exam.
Being near to the Philippines, Singapore continues to be a favorable place for OFWs. This 2015, among the job openings in Singapore include IT and software engineers, office workers, bank staff and accountants, nurses and caregivers, and many more. However, the POEAE reminds Filipinos that the country’s Ministry of Manpower is very strict when it comes to direct hiring of foreign workers.
#2 United Arab Emirates (UAE)
Although there are many sad stories of Filipinos who previously work in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), there are still tons of job openings in the country for OFWs. For Filipinos who want to work abroad, Dubai continuously offers a very promising opportunity in different fields. This includes domestic helpers, baristas, call center agents, customer representatives, IT support, office staff, and many more.
#1 Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA)
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has always been in the number spot for OFWs for years. From 2009 to 2013, the job deployment (new hires and rehires) in Saudi has risen from 291,419 to 382,553, the POEA said. Based on their projection, Saudi will remain leading as the top country for OFWs in the coming years. The Philippine government said that it will continue in protecting OFWs in Saudi.
Other countries in the Middle East that will continue to hire OFWs in 2015 are Bahrain and Kuwait. Other foreign lands that will hire Filipinos next year include Australia, Brunei, and Malaysia. Job offers for seabased workers are also expected to increase. Nevertheless, all aspiring OFWs are being reminded to avoid illegal recruiters.
