Senator Grace Poe made a promise to make Filipinos feel safer in her first month as president, if she wins. Apparently, this is bolder than the promise of presidentiable, Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte that he will end crime and corruption in the entire Philippines in 3 to 6 months. Poe revealed on how she plans to fulfill her promise.
“Ako, I’m very optimistic na pagkaupo ko bilang pangulo, mararamdaman na nila ang seguridad sa loob pa lang ng isang buwan,” (I’m very optimistic that if I become the president, Filipinos would feel secured in my first month only.) Sen. Grace Poe told reporters this Wednesday, April 13 about her plans to fight criminality in the country.

If elected president, Sen. Poe said she will appoint a decent, honest, and trustworthy official to be the next chief of the PNP (Philippine National Police). The 47-year old Partido ng Galing at Puso standard bearer noted that this will be a major role in her timeline to provide security of the people by fighting criminals and drug pushers.

To boost the morale of the police, Poe said she will give incentives and rewards within half a year to police and barangay officials who can dramatically reduce or zero out crimes and illegal drugs in their respective areas. However, she said the police chief and his men who will fail in their 30-day deadline will immediately be replaced.

Nevertheless, Sen. Poe emphasized that there is a need of additional policemen and that their salaries should be increased accordingly. She noted that this will not only help them to avoid bribe, but also to let them feel that the national government is on their side. However, she said her promise is not made to be than Duterte’s promises.

“I don’t want to mislead the public and say that three to six months will be enough. Because whether we like it or not, we have to work through our judicial system. The important thing is within the first month, the people will feel that that our programs against crime and illegal drugs are strictly being implemented.”: Poe said.
On the same day, Sen. Grace Poe was questioned when she mentioned that she will continue the legacy of his adoptive father, the late action star Fernando Poe Jr. (FPJ). As we all know, FPJ never held any government position before he ran for president in 2004. She said FPJ has helped a lot of people and served as an inspiration.
