If many Filipinos want to work abroad or prefer to migrate in other countries, here is a Canadian tourist in the Philippines who is proud to be Pinoy by heart. Meet Kyle Jennermann, 26, who now lives in Cagayan de Oro and wants to become Filipino forever. Here’s how he began to love the country.
According to his blog, Kyle Jennermann, whose Pinoy nickname is Kulas, visited the Philippines in January 2013 and began to fall in love with the beauty of the country and the Filipino culture. His love became stronger when he helped the victims of Typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban. Since then, he wanted to become a Pinoy.
On his YouTube channel, he uploaded videos visiting various places in the country. This includes Luneta, Makati, Rizal, Batangas, Bohol, Bukidnon, Cebu, Laguna, Leyte, Quezon, Misamis Occidental, and other provinces in Northern Mindanao. He also rode a jeepney, a boat, a carabao, and MRT as well.
And yes, he has also eaten balut, halo-halo, lechon (pig brain, especially), and others. He even tried to cook adobo, and has helped cook native delicacies such as biko, nilupak, and buko pandan. But that’s not all. He also watched the Manny Pacquiao vs Chris Algieri fight along with some Filipinos in Laguna.
Being a former outdoor consultant for an outdoor adventure company in Hong Kong, Jennermann has already travelled to 30 countries. But because he loves Philippines so much, he renews his tourist visa every month and has no plans of going back to his hometown at Comox, British Columbia. In fact, he is convincing his parents to come here, too.
“A lot of people send this message to me ‘Oh, you want to become Filipino? Just marry a Filipina’. For me, love is love. If it happens, it happens. Don’t get me wrong. I met so many beautiful, amazing, nice Filipinas but I’m just in love with their culture, these people, right now,” Kyle Jennermann told ABS-CBN.
“I was never afraid of terrorism or bombing. It’s just the simple things like being happy and sharing that I truly love about the Filipinos. That’s something I can learn from.” He said in an interview by GMA News “Saksi,” adding that he plans to stay at Cagayan de Oro for good.
As of posting, Kyle “Kulas” Jennermann is continuously making a list of activities and places he should visit in the Philippines. Despite having completed most of them and has toured in Region 4-A, Region 7, and Region 10, he is still accepting suggestions from Filipinos on how to become a 100% Filipino.
And yes, it’s amazing that despite of the tough economy, controversies among politicians, and many Filipinos want to migrate in Canada, there’s a Canadian citizen who loves becoming Filipino. It’s probably because it’s really more fun in the Philippines.
Kyle Jennermann is 100% Canadian, but he is proud to be Pinoy! Do you feel the same way?
