President Duterte’s First 3 Months ‘Very Good’ Rating, Better Than PNoy: September 2016 SWS Survey

President Rodrigo Duterte gets a “Very Good” rating in his first three months; from July to September 2016, based on the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey. Apparently, the said survey concluded that Duterte’s rating is better than the past presidents since the late Ferdinand Marcos, including Benigno “Noynoy” S. Aquino, except for Fidel V. Ramos.

As summarized at Business World Online this Thursday, October 6, the SWS survey was conducted from September 24 to 27 via face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults across the country. The result has a sampling error margins of ±3 percentage points for national percentages and ±6 points each for Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao regions.

According to SWS, the classification of the net satisfaction ratings for the said survey for President Duterte and other past presidents are as follows: Excellent (at least +70); Very Good (+50 to +69); Good (+30 to +49); Moderate (+10 to +29); Neutral (9 to – 9); Poor (– 10 to – 29); Bad (– 30 to – 49); Very Bad (– 50 to – 69); and Execrable (– 70 and below).

Based on the SWS survey, President Duterte earned a net satisfaction rating of +64 (% satisfied minus % dissatisfied, rounded off), while President Noynoy Aquino (PNoy) garnered a “very good” +60 (71% satisfied, 11% dissatisfied) in a Sept. 24-27, 2010 survey. For the record, Duterte beat Pnoy’s presidential bet Marcos with a margin of over 6.6 million votes.

On the other hand, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo got a “moderate” +24 (42% satisfied, 18% dissatisfied) on March 5-18, 2001, and “moderate” +12 (48% satisfied, 36% dissatisfied) on Aug. 5-22, 2004 shortly after winning the 2004 elections. As we all know, Arroyo replaced Joseph ‘Erap’ Estrada, who was ousted via EDSA People Power 2 in January 2001.

But despite his two-and-a-half year term, President Erap had a “very good” +60 (69% satisfied, 9% dissatisfied) on Sept. 11-29, 1998. Fidel V. Ramos had a “very good” +66 (70% satisfied, 4% dissatisfied) in an Aug.10-Sept. 8, 1992 survey, while Corazon Aquino had a “very good” +53 (60% satisfied, 7% dissatisfied) in a May 2-June 6, 1986 survey.

As a conclusion, only President Ramos had somehow surpassed President Duterte’s net rating, although both gentlemen had a “Very Good” rating. It should be noted, however that Duterte had an “excellent” rating in Mindanao, with a net satisfaction rating of +85 (88% satisfied, 4% dissatisfied, rounded off), and also “Excellent” among men and for people ages 25-44.
