Pope Francis Forgives Duterte, Accepts Apology and Offered Prayers for Him

Pope Francis has already forgiven Davao City Rodrigo ‘Rody’ Duterte, and has accepted his apology. In fact, he even offered prayers to the PDP-Laban presidential. This has been confirmed through a letter from the Vatican addressed to Mayor Duterte, dated February 24, 2016, but it is only last Sunday that he was informed about it.

“Dear Mr. Duterte, His Holiness Pope Francis has received your letter of 21 January 2016, and he has asked me to respond on his behalf. He appreciates the sentiments which you expressed.” The letter reads, as penned and signed by Italian Archbishop Giovanni Angelo Becciu from the Office of the Vatican Secretary of State.

“The Holy Father offers the assurance of prayers for you, as he invokes upon you the divine blessings of wisdom and peace,” He added. There was no direct mention that Duterte’s apology has been accepted and he has been forgiven for cursing at Pope Francis last year. However, the content of the letter appears to mean the same.

After receiving tons of criticisms from netizens and various groups, Mayor Duterte apologized and clarified that he is not cursing at the Pope. He said his foul words were meant to the current government for not solving the heavy traffic, causing disruption to the public especially when an important person visits the country.
