Nearly 80 members of the Liberal Party (LP) have recently transferred to PDP-Laban party of President Rodrigo Duterte. This includes congressmen, governors, vice-governors, mayors, and vice-mayors from various provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. The confirmation was made shortly after LP announced its support to Senator Leila de Lima.
This Thursday, August 18, LP senators announced its full support to Sen de Lima’s predicament after President Duterte publicly announced that there is a lady senator whose driver is also her lover. Although the president did not mention the senator’s name, he noted that her lover is involved in illegal drugs, adding later that he has solid evidence to prove his claims.
Among the LP senators who publicly criticized the president’s action are LP vice chairman and Senate President Pro-Tempore Franklin Drilon, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, and neophyte senator, Risa Hontiveros. The Liberal Party, also issued a statement saying that de Lima deserves the support because she is doing her job as an elected senator.

But this Saturday morning, a female secretary of a governor from Mindanao sent us a message telling us that her boss and other officials in their province have left LP. The said secretary, who requested not to be identified, added that the governor and vice-governor are now members of PDP-Laban, and have withdrawn their support to Sen. Leila de Lima.
Without citing reasons, the secretary noted that both officials are only among the 78 local government officials who have recently left LP. And although she confirmed to us that some of them were from the Visayas region, she emphasized that the figure does not include the 50 officials from Negros Occidental, led by Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr.
