Manny Pacquiao Now Highest Taxpayer in the Philippines, Piolo Pascual Tops Celebrities

Manny Pacquiao is the highest taxpayer in the Philippines today, based on the latest list of 500 individual top taxpayers in the country released by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). On the other hand, Piolo Pascual was listed as top celebrity taxpayer. The BIR list is based on the tax payment as of November 24, 2014.

According to the 12-page pdf file report posted at the BIR’s official website, Manny Pacquiao paid P163, 841, 863in regular income taxes in 2013. It should be noted that the 36-year old Filipino boxing icon is currently battling a tax evasion case, BIR chief Kim Henares emphasized that the case is still pending on court.

Pacquiao, who will finally fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas and reportedly to receive $80 million (around 3.2 billion pesos), allegedly has an unpaid taxes at least 2.2 billion pesos for 2008 and 2009. The Pacquiao-Mayweather match is set to be the richest fight in history.

Meanwhile, the second highest taxpayer in the country is a businessman named Juanito Pornuevo Alcantara. The nature of his business is not clear, but the BIR report said he paid P99.61 million in income taxes. Third on the list is one of the country’s top lawyers, Estelito Mendoza, who paid an income tax of P73.18 million.

Landing on the fourth spot is a certain Reynaldo Benoza Chico, Jr., who paid P67.34 million. He was followed by Andrew Tan, the founder and chairman of Megaworld Corp. Tan, who is also the fourth richest man in the Philippines according to Forbes, paid P67.18 million for his income tax.

The sixth and seventh place went to Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. president Lorenzo Tan and Palawan Governor Jose Alvarez, respectively. Mercury Drug president Vivian Que Azcona ranked eighth, while Meralco president Oscar Reyes. Insular Life chairman and CEO Vicente Ayllon completed the top 10.

For the local celebrities, Piolo Pascual paid an income tax payment of P42.53 million and ranked 14th on the BIR list. He was followed by his fellow Kapamilya talent, John Lloyd Cruz, who paid P41.97 million. Meanwhile, presidential sister Kris Aquino, ranked 16th and had an income tax payment of P40.48 million.

Megastar Sharon Cuneta, wife of Sen. Francis Pangilinan, landed on the 19th spot with an income tax payment of P39 million. Comedian-host Willie Revillame, who recently signed a contract with GMA-7, paid P38.3 million, while Kapamilya star Anne Curtis-Smith ranked 36th with an income tax of P28.23 million.

Other known celebrities on BIR’s list include Judy Ann Santos (44th), who paid P24.32 million; Coco Martin (52nd), who paid P22.49 million; comedian-host Vic Sotto (53rd), who paid P22.4 million; singer-actress Sarah Gerononimo (99th), who paid P16.12 million; and Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes, who paid P15.7 million.
