Filipinos have a new reason to be ‘Proud to be Pinoy.’ This is after Mandaluyong City was able to set a new Guinness World Records for having the largest Zumba class ever held in a single location this Sunday, July 19. Thanks to all the 12,975 people who joined this event, as shown in the news report by GMA News’ ’24 Oras.’

As you can see on the video below, all the participants are wearing yellow T-shirts as they danced to different high-tempo music continuously for about an hour. The said event, which was made to celebrate the 53rd birthday of Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos that day, broke the record of Cebu set ast year with only 8,232 participants.

On her official Facebook page on the same day, City Councilor Charisse Marie Abalos (Mayor Abalos’ daughter) thanked everyone who joined the event. On a separate post, she uploaded a photo of her father holding the official Guinness World Records certificate for the world’s largest Zumba class, along with its representative and certifier, Alan Pixley.

This event was dubbed as “Kayang-kayang Magsayaw,” was held in the streets of F. Martinez, Nueve de Pebrero Streets and Fabella Road, with celebrity Zumba instructor Regine Tolentino also participated. The preparation reportedly took about 2 months, and all the participants woke up as early as 3 am that morning.
