The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) towed and impounded illegally parked vehicles along Roxas Boulevard in Manila this Wednesday, July 20. This includes a car with a DU30 plate and the red plate car of actor-comedian-politician Vandolph Quizon, who was recently elected as councilor in Parañaque City under Liberal Party (LP).
As shared at Even Demata Facebook page, Councilor Vandolph’s Toyota Innova bears a red plate with plate number SHL 954. The said car was illegally parked in front of an unnamed condominium along Roxas Boulevard. On the other hand, the owner of the Ford Expedition with the DU30 plate is not known. There were other towed cars in that area.
As per Section 1.2 of MMDA Resolution No. 02-33, “Illegally Parked Vehicle” refers to one which is parked in areas prohibited by existing law or ordinance for parking purposes or those designated by the Authority and or the local government units (LGUs) as No Parking areas or zones.” The prohibited areas include all National roads in Metro Manila.
This strong action of towing and impounding illegally parked vehicles is led by MMDA Anti-Illegal Parking Operations Head Roldan Aban, who recently said that their agency will never stop removing obstructions on the roads. This is part of President Rodrigo Duterte’s strict campaign in reducing worsening traffic, particularly in major streets in Metro Manila.
This Tuesday, July 19, the MMDA started its towing of illegally parked vehicles along Aurora Boulevard in Quezon City. According to Aban, the main focus of the clearing operations is to allow motorists to have various alternate routes going to EDSA, where heavy traffic does not only waste the time of Filipinos but also huge amount of money.
Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is strictly prohibiting the use of DU30 plates, which is considered a major violation. Besides paying the P5,000-fine, the DU30 plate will be confiscated. As of posting, Vandolph, who is the son of the late Comedy King Dolphy and losing senatoriable, Alma Moreno, has not yet commented on his towed car.
