Legendary komiks artist Karl Comendador draws for Digong komiks, a comic book designed to let the people know the achievements of Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte. He is the same artist who did the Mar Roxas comic book, “Sa Gitna ng Unos.” But time, he was very inspired to do it simply because he is also a solid Duterte supporter.
Comendador, who works for Atlas Publishing Company Inc. shared this Thursday, April 13 on his official Facebook page a sneak peak of the 10-page Duterte comics titled “Digong: Ang Kanlungan ng mga Inaapi at Inaabuso.” The story was written by Jim Estrabela and KC Cordero of Atlas Komiks, and features Mayor Rody Duterte helping Filipinos.
“Ang mga accomplishments ni Davao City Mayor Rodrigo ‘Rody’ Duterte ay hindi nakasulat sa mga pahayagan, naririnig sa radyo o napapanood sa telebisyon. Ikinukwento iyon ng mga taong nakatatanggap ng tulong niya at nakasasaksi kung anong uri siya ng public servant,” A statement reads on the cover of the Duterte comic book.
(The accomplishments of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo ‘Rody’ Duterte are not being published in newspapers, not reported in radio and TV news. They are being told by those who received help from him and those who have witnessed what kind of public servant he is.)

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Karl Comendador said he finished the Digong komiks last year, long way before he made the “Sa Gitna ng Unos”, which he did only this February. He said he did the Duterte comic book in just two weeks, and noted he was very particular with Duterte’s face so the drawing can really look like the mayor.
Comendador noted that copies of the Digong komiks are now being distributed in Mindanao. However, he apologized to people from Luzon because it will not be available in that region. He also admitted that he was commissioned to do it, but it is not true that the Duterte campaign team paid for it, contrary to what some reports say.

As we all know, the Mar Roxas comic book was heavily criticized particularly on the fact that the LP presidentiable was dubbed as the hero of the Typhoon Yolanda. Netizens also slammed Comendador for being its drawing artist. He said it was only a part of his job, and that he is supporting Duterte’s candidacy because he believes in him.
