A footbridge in Iloilo City is now totally damaged and has collapsed into the river. According to Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog, the said bridge is worth P1 million and connects barangays Loboc and Mansaya, in Lapuz, and was built by a congressman he did not name. Nevertheless, he said that he will build a temporary bridge soon.
As posted by Mayor Jed Mabilog on his official Facebook page this Monday, July 25 using the province’ local dialect, Hiligaynon, the construction of the said bridge started in 2009 and was completed in 2010, and has a total spending of a whooping P1 million. However, after a series of heavy rains all these years, the said footbridge cannot be used anymore.
The city mayor noted that for the meantime, a temporary bridge will be built so that his constituents can travel across the river. For the permanent solution, he said he will allocate a budget to build a new and better bridge in 2017. And although he did not disclose the amount, we assume that it will not be made of just planks of wood and cheap pipe railings again.

After doing some research, we learned that former Congressman Raul T. Gonzalez, Jr. was the representative of the lone district of Iloilo City from 2004 to 2010. He is the eldest son of the late Raul M.Gonzalez Sr, who became the Secretary of Justice during the Arroyo administration after he was preceded by his son as Iloilo City representative.
On the other hand, Congressman Jerry P. Treñas served as representative of the lone district of Iloilo City in 2010, and was reelected in the recent 2016 elections. He was also elected as Iloilo City mayor of the City for three terms (2001-2010). As of posting, he and Gonzalez, Jr. Have not yet commented about this alleged P1-million footbridge in their city.
