A post at the official GMA News Facebook page this Monday, May 2 suggests that the network is against Davao City Mayor Rodrigo ‘Rody’ Duterte. The anti-Duterte post was published when the Kapuso network shared their news report about the statement of Atty. Salvador Panelo, Duterte’s legal counsel. GMA News later apologized and explained what happened.
“Hindi ko talaga gets kung bakit ayaw buksan kung may ‘waiver’ na naman. Pautot nyo.” (I really don’t understand why they don’t want to open it if there’s already a waiver. You’re full of excuses.)” A statement at GMA News Facebook page reads, referring to the controversial Duterte’s BPI bank account at Julia Vargas branch, in Pasay City.
The Kapuso network immediately deleted the anti-Duterte caption, but netizen was faster and was able to save a screenshot first, and spread it on Facebook. Hours later, GMA News post a public apology on their official Facebook, admitting that there was such a post. In addition, they stressed out that it was a post by one of their employees.

GMA News added that the incident is now under investigation, assuring the public that they remain commited to their famous slogan, Walang Kinikilingan, Walang Pinoprotektahan, Walang Kasinungalingan, Serbisyong Totoo Lamang.” (Not bias, not protecting anyone, no lies, only truthful services.). Many netizens praised the Kapuso network’s humility.

As we all know, Atty. Salvador Panelo and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV met at BPI Julia Vargas branch that day. Mayor Rody Duterte said he is willing to open that account, provided that Trillanes will submit an affidavit containing the names of his source. The senator listed a Joseph de Mesa, who was descibed as a former Duterte supporter.
Atty. Panelo said that BPI will study it further to avoid legal issues. The bank said it will release a certification explaining all the details of Duterte’s bank accounts. Nevertheless, BPI requested to give them seven days before they can release it. Trillanes accused Duterte of having at least P211 million in that account, Duterte denied it.

According to the affidavit of Trillanes, his source of information is a certain Joseph de Mesa, whom he descibed as a former Duterte supporter. Panelo then said he requested BPI to release a certification explaining all the details of Duterte’s bank accounts. He told reporters that the bank told him it will take seven days to release it.
