Look: Eat Bulaga vs It’s Showtime Ratings Before and With AlDub (July 1- October 2015)
The Eat Bulaga vs It’s Showtime ratings showed a significant difference between the two noontime shows when AlDub came and even when it was not born yet. According to the latest data from AGB Nielsen, GMA’s Eat Bulaga has been eating ABS-CBN’s It’s Showtime alive in terms of ratings from the past three months, from July 1, 2015 to October 31, 2015, even before AlDub came.
We all know that the AlDub phenomenon started during the July 16, 2015 episode when Maine Mendoza (aka Yaya Dub) smiled for the first time in Eat Bulaga’s ‘All for One, One for All’ segment. This is when Yaya Dub saw Alden watching her dubsmash act on split-screen, and couldn’t help but smile. The creative team of Eat Bulaga made an interesting story that started the Kalyeserye.
And as the number of Filipino televiewers and netizens being interested in AlDub dramatically increased, It’s Showtime featured Angelica Jane Yap, aka Pastillas Girl on their show. Apparently, this led to the Yaya Dub vs Pastillas Girl competition, and fans of both shows started to compare the two. Unfortunately, there are also bashers causing social media word war.
However, the popularity of the Alden-Maine love team became unstoppable and Eat Bulaga’s ratings skyrocketed as AlDub Nation (AlDub fans) also brought their admiration to Twitter. Every day, fans of Eat Bulaga and It’s Showtime use their respective hashtags. Nevertheless, Saturday is usually the ‘battle day’ as each show presents surprises to their followers.
As you can see from the comparative graph based on the AGB Nielsen data, the blue lines represents Eat Bulaga while the red lines are for It’s Showtime. Each data is for every Saturday, starting July 18, 2015 where Eat Bulaga has 22.2% ratings and is already slightly leading against It’s Showtime. But as weeks goes by, the lead gets higher and higher.
On October 24, 2015, AlDub’s ‘Sa Tamang Panahon’ event at the 55,000-seater Philippine Arena had a whooping ratings of 50.8%, insulting It’s Showtime that had only 5.4%. That day, the hashtag hashtag #AlDubEBTamangPanahon had 41 million tweets, creating a new Twitter record, beating the 2014 hashtag #WorldCup that had 35.6 million tweets only.
But while Eat Bulaga has beaten It’s Showtime since AlDub was born, it’s also interesting to know that even before there was no AlDub yet. As you can see, AGB Nielsen data shows that Eat Bulaga is already leading against It’s Showtime from July 1, 2015 to July 15, 2015. That time, Eat Bulaga had an average rating of 20% while It’s Showtime’s average is only 12%.
Vice Ganda has already admitted that It’s Showtime cannot beat Eat Bulaga, adding that their plan is not really to compete against the 36-year old noontime show. However, they still try its best to make their followers happy, recently through PBB (Pinoy Big Brother 737). For Eat Bulaga, Alden and Maine continue to give ‘kilig’ moments, and getting to know each other.
