Kris Aquino is the top donor for the campaign of Vice President-elect Leni Robredo, who is also the biggest spender among all the vice presidentiables in the recent 2016 elections. This revelation comes two days after Robredo submitted her Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Robredo, who beat Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. by a very slim margin, received a total contribution of P423,163,737.34, including the P16,865,148.32 cash donation from Liberal Party (LP) and another P192,338.83 in kind. However, her SOCE revealed that she only spent P418,664,130.60, leaving her an excess of over P5 million.
Kris Aquino reportedly made a total donation of P30,830,222.42 to Leni out of the total cash donation of P406,106,250.19. The presidential sister has been very vocal in supporting Robredo as vice president. Nevertheless, another sister of outgoing president Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III, Victoria “Viel” Aquino Dee donated P1 million.

On the other hand, Senator Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero landed as the second highest spender among the VP candidates. His SOCE showed that he received P322,567,073.60 donation, and spent P321,014,827.64. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano landed as third, receiving a total contribution of P188,930,000.00 and spent P189,129,872.48.

Sen. Marcos landed as fourth, after receiving P130,707,735 in contributions but spent P140,539,366.34. Next to him is Senator Antonio Trillanes IV who received P61,159,497.87 in contributions and spent P61,896,067.36. As the lowest spender, Senator Gregorio Honasan spent P26,259,899.20, and received a total of P25,963,450.00 in donations.

As of posting, Kris Aquino has not yet commented on being the top donor of Leni Robredo. Nevertheless, the administration vice-presidentiable earlier vowed that there will be no strings attached with her donors. And although she did not mention who they are, Robredo stressed out that her donors do not really need anything from her as a politician.

Meanwhile, Boyet Dy, Robredo’s transition team head is now working with the camp of outgoing VP Jejomar Binay, who is now packing up his personal belongings at the Coconut Palace. He also noted that Leni Robredo will still deliver her campaign promises as vice president, despite having no cabinet offer yet from President-elect Rordigo Duterte.
