ABS-CBN news anchor Korina Sanchez is on the hot seat again. Early last week, she said on live TV that Typhoon Hagupit (Ruby) should hit Japan instead of the Philippines. Netizens immediately criticized her comments. Soon after, the noise reached CNN reporter Anderson Cooper and gave his reaction.
It should be remembered that Sanchez and Cooper had an exchange of statements last year during the height of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). That time, Cooper was reporting from ground zero in Tacloban, and said that the government appears to be weak in responding to the needs of the victims.
Later, Sanchez, wife of Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas, contradicted Cooper’s claim. While reporting inside a fully-air-conditioned studio, she said the American news reporter doesn’t know what he’s saying. Cooper later invited Korina to visit Tacloban.

On Wednesday, December 3, 2014, TV Patrol news anchors Noli de Castro, Ted Failon and Korina Sanchez had their usual side comments before the program finally ends. For those who don’t understand Filipino, here is the conversation between de Castro and Sanchez with English translation:
Korina Sanchez: Kaya pa natin idasal yan para lumihis (We can still pray so that the typhoon will change its route)
Noli de Castro: Sana ay hati na lang tayo. Kalahati sa Pilipinas, kalahati sa Japan. (Hopefully, only half the typhoon will hit Philippines and the other half will go to Japan)
Korina Sanchez: Puwede bang sa kanilang lahat? (Is it possible that the entire typhoon hits Japan instead?)
Noli de Castro: Huwag naman. (No, hopefully not.)
Korina Sanchez: Sa kanila na lang lahat. Parang mas kaya nila. (Let Japan receive it all. It seems they are more capable to face it)

Upon learning this, Anderson Cooper could not help but make a statement. On his CNN show “Anderson Cooper 360° (also known as AC 360) last Friday,” the American journalist reported about Typhoon Hagupit hitting the Philippines.
“But while it seems that the Philippine government has a better preparation than last year, a local female news anchor is back on her unprofessional attitude.” Anderson said, without mentioning the name of Korina Sanchez. Although of course, Filipinos watching the show that time know whom he is referring to.
“If I belong to the top management of the network she is working for, I will suggest that this woman be given some rest so she can go back to her senses. She should recall that Japan was among the first countries to provide help during the Typhoon Haiyan.” He added.
