Yes, you read it right; Filipina Josie Rizal is one of the new characters introduced in the 2015 fighting game, Tekken 7. Her name was taken from no less than the Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. The trailer video of Josie Rizal in action is available below. And yes, many Filipinos reacted in a funny way.
The new female character was officially revealed by the video game publisher, Bandai Namco Games during an event this Sunday, March 29. Josie Rizal will be joined by other new characters, and Jin Kazama, as well as his alter ego, Devil Jin. Jin was supposed to die in Tekken 6, so fans were excited to see him again.
In March 2014, Tekken creator Katsuhiro Harada tweeted, “Jollibee.” This led to speculations that a Filipino character will be introduced in Tekken 7, which was officially released in Japan on February 18, 2015 and was widely released on March 18, 2015 and is available on PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox.
According to reports, Josie Rizal has a Filipino descent and was co-created by Mad Catz community manager Mark “MarkMan” Julio for the ninth installment of the long-running Tekken fighting game series. As you can see on the video, Josie is wearing a yellow top, a blue miniskirt, and a red bunny-like hair accessory.
Jin Kazama will be unlocked on Tuesday, March 31, while Devil Jin will appear on April 7. The appearance of Josie Rizal is yet to be revealed.
