A report is saying that the owner of Jollibee is supporting the presidential bid of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo ‘Rody’ Duterte. But while OFWs, local celebrities, ordinary citizens, and some unnamed businessmen are supporting Duterte, Jollibee belied the report, saying that Jollibee and the company owner are not supporting any candidate.
“Billionaire Tony Tan Caktiong, who is from Davao and is the owner of the now world famous fast food chain Jollibee [(as well as Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC)], has just declared his support for the Davao Mayor!” A statement reads at the column of Rey Arcilla for the Malaya Business Insight, published this Tuesday, March 29.
“With the millions of loyal Jollibee customers around the country, Tan Caktiong’s endorsement is certainly a tremendous boost to Hizzoner Duterte’s winning ways.” He added. As of January 2015, there are more than 3,000 Jollibee branches worldwide. JFC also owns Burger King Philippines, Chowking, Greenwich Pizza, Red Ribbon, and Mang Inasal.

Apparently, the report did not mention the kind of support Duterte will receive from the billionaire businessman. Nevertheless, several Filipino businessmen have earlier pledge an initial amount of P1 billion as financial assistance for Duterte’s campaign. The group is called Anonymous Patriots for a Peaceful and Progressive Philippines (AP4)
None of these businessmen wish to be identified, but they said they believe Duterte can provide peace and order to the country. Duterte already admitted that he has no enough money for his campaign, and he does not want to accept money from anyone. But the businessmen supporting Duterte vows a ‘no-strings attached’ commitment.
However, JFC released their official statement on the issue. According to their post on Facebook also this Tuesday, Jollibee and its Founder and Chairman Tony Tan Caktiong are apolitical and as such, do not endorse any poltical candidate, organization or agenda. Below is the full content of their official statement on the issue.

Meanwhile, Mayor Rody Duterte and his team had a campaign in Dolores, Abra this Tuesday. There, he promised to build an airport in that area if he will be elected president. There are already airports in Northern Luzon such as the Laoag International Airport, Tuguegarao Airport, and Basco Airport in Batanes, but are far from Abra.
