Joey de Leon Tweets Joke About Nepal Earthquake, Draws Criticisms

Joey de Leon

Joey de Leon tweets a joke about the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Nepal last Saturday, April 25. However, some netizens didn’t find them funny and criticized the ace comedian. But instead of apologizing, the Eat Bulaga host responded and defended himself against the bashers.

“Sa mga nalibing sa Highest Point in the World dahil sa avalanche because of the earthquake in Nepal, May you EVEREST IN FREEZE !” Joey de Leon (@AngPoetNyo) tweeted Sunday, which earned mixed reactions on Twitter. Some of them calling him very sensitive on the issue. He later deleted this tweet.

(To the people who were buried in the highest point in the world because of the avalanche caused by the earthquake in Nepal, may you Everest in freeze!)

Hours later, the 68-year old legendary comedian tweeted again. This time, he somehow could not take the bashers and became harsh to them.

“Bakit ganon sa twitter pag hindi nila nakuha joke or not o hindi sila nakaisip nung entry wala ka nang kwenta? I just condoled mga bobo!”

“Sa mga “righteous” dyan: Do not talk to me about respect for the dead. Kausapin nyo muna creators ng Walking Dead at mga Vampire series!”

(Why is it that on Twitter, if they didn’t get the joke or if they didn’t come up with the entry, you’ll be useless. I just condoled, idiots!)

(To those “righteous” out there: Do not talk to me about respect for the dead. Talk first to the creators of The Walking Dead and Vampire series!)

In fairness to him, there are a few netizens who said his joke is tolerable and that only smart people cant get it. On the other hand, many netizens criticized him for not respecting the dead. Below are some of them:

As of posting, the official death toll of this Nepal earthquake is over 4,000. Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala predicted it could reach 10,000. The United Nation (UN) said around 8 million Nepalis are affected. International aid is now arriving in the country, while the government continues the rescue and relief operations.

So, what do you think about Joey de Leon’s tweet joke? Is it really offensive or some people easily get paranoid?
