Floyd Mayweather Finally Decides to Fight Manny Pacquiao, After Watching His Funny Commercial

funny Manny Pacquiao Foot Locker adPhilippine congressman and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will fight Chris Algieri this Saturday, November 22 (Sunday, Manila time) in Macao. But before that, Pacquiao made a funny commercial for Foot Locker that pissed off Floyd Mayweather Jr and finally made him decide to fight him.

“We can confirm that Floyd Mayweather definitely wants the Pacquiao fight. Everyone on our side – Floyd, CBS and Showtime – is advocating for the fight to happen.” a Showtime spokesperson wrote in an email and sent it to The Times and also obtained by RingTV.com.

Two days ago, Foot Locker released a series of “Week of Greatness 2014” commercials, where NBA superstars Derrick Rose and Tim Duncan appeared. Another ad featured Houston Rockets star James Harden, while another one has WWE Superstar John Cena.

In the Manny Pacquiao commercial, two men talking about the “Week of Greatness” is back on Foot Locker. The Filipino boxer heard them but got confused and thought Mayweather finally agreed to fight him. He became excited and screamed, “Yes! He’s going to fight me! He’s going to fight me!”

According to a source from the Mayweather camp, who requested not to be identified, the undefeated boxing champion saw the Pacquiao Foot Locker ad and he was very intimidated. The source confirmed that the boxer asked Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe to make the necessary negotiations.

Mayweather has no official comment on this yet, but officials from Showtime and HBO are now discussing for a possible a joint venture to push through the much-awaited fight. The Pacquiao-Mayweather fight has been in talks since 2009, but this time, everybody is serious to make it happen.

Mayweather, whose record is 47-0-0 (26 KOs), last fought Marcos Maidana II on their rematch last September. He was declared winner via unanimous decision. On their first bout, the American boxer won by majority decision. His next fight is set for May 2015 but details are not yet finalized.

“The networks are already talking. I am now more optimistic that the fight is going to happen than I was three or four years ago. I am talking to responsible people who are in touch with the Mayweather guys.” Pacquiao promoter Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum told GMA News.

“All of these people have the ability to move it ahead and make it happen.” Arum added, noting that it is very much possible that the Pacquiao vs Mayweather match will be held at the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

“Anything could happen. For as long as I am still in boxing, and he is still here, there’s always a chance that we could fight together.” Pacquiao said, but declined on how much he was paid for the funny Foot Locker commercial.

Meanwhile, coach Freddie Roach said he is very confident that Pacquiao can knockout Chris Algieri in the first round. Algieri, who stands 5’10” and is former kickboxing champion, holds the record of 20-0, 8 KO’s. The 30-year old American boxer is currently the WBO Light Welterweight Champion.

The Pacquiao-Algieri fight will be held at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, and can be watched on HBO pay-per-view. The bout will be for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) World welterweight championship. Latest predictions reveal that Pacquiao can easily win.
