When we talk about supercars, we immediately think of European car manufacturers such as Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. This time, meet Aurelio, the first Filipino supercar. The video below shows its amazing features. No wonder, Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao is willing to support the idea.
This Aurelio supercar is the result of the creative minds and hard work of Brendan Aurelio, the owner of Pacita Fibertech, and an engineering student named Kevin Factor. They build a company called Factor Aurelio. But now, this first Philippine-made supercar is owned by Automobile Aurelio Concepts Inc.
At first glance, Aurelio appears to be a hybrid of the Ferrari 458 Italia (if viewed from the front), McLaren P1 (doors and side mirrors) and Lamborghini Aventador (rear end). However, the creators emphasized that the design is original and is a not a replica of an existing car.
Available either with a Mitsubishi 4G63T turbocharged 2.0-liter engine or a Honda B16A V-TEC engine, this Philippines’ first supercar weighs 362 kilograms and has a dimensions of 436 cm x 178 cm x 178 cm (L x W x H). According to the Laguna-based car fabricator, Aurelio supercar has a power of 517 HP.
The supercar sports a VR4 front and rear suspension, and is equipped with 18” Rota wheels. Its exterior is made from both reinforced plastic and fiber glass, while its chassis is made of tube steel. The top speed is 290 kph, which is not surprising due to the 300-kph capacity of the Mitsubishi engine.
The 2014 Aurelio Supercar prototype was officially released by Aurelio Concepts Inc. Brendan Aurelio, who is an architect by profession, is joined by Sonny Garcia and Peter Sy for the marketing strategies and business vision, respectively.
Upon learning about this first Filipino supercar, 8-divison boxing champion and congressman Manny Pacquiao said that he is very proud about Aurelio and that he will support it all the way. Wealthy enough to buy luxurious cars, Pacquiao bought a Ferrari 458 Italia Sports Car reportedly worth $255,000.
“Siyempre, susuportahan natin ang gawang Pinoy. Nakita ko na yung prototype at nagandahan ako.” Pacquiao told reporters in an ambush interview in the US. He did not say whether he will buy one or simply promote it. Pacquiao left the Philippines last week to be a judge in the 2015 Miss Universe pageant.
(Of course, we will support the products made in the Philippines. I already saw the prototype and I think it’s beautiful.)
According to the Aurelio Concepts Inc., the Aurelio supercar costs around 2 million pesos for the 1.6L and 3 million pesos for the 3.0L. It will be available in blue, orange, and yellow.
