Fast Growing Number of Angry Netizens Call for People Power Rally vs Sen Leila de Lima, “Resign Now”

A fast-growing number of angry netizens are now calling for a People Power rally vs Senator Leila de Lima, demanding her to resign. This comes a few hours after the neophyte senator held a press conference this Monday, November 7, where she denied being involved in the killing of drug suspect Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. last Saturday, inside his jail cell.

“Invent pa more,” Sen Leila de Lima said, when she was asked about her alleged involvement in Mayor Espinosa’s death. Nevertheless, the embattled senator focused on explaining the petition she filed at the Supreme Court (SC) early that morning, where she requested the high court to issue a writ of habeas data against President Rodrigo Duterte.

In her 26-page petition, Sen. De Lima asked the SC to order President Duterte to stop from collecting information and materials from any source and use this to insult her in public. The Liberal Party (LP) senator noted that the president’s “shame campaign” against her is a clear violation of her constitutional rights, and that it should be stopped immediately.

Accompanied by nuns, and human rights lawyer, the founding dean of the De La Salle University College of Law Jose Manuel “Chel” Diokno, who also acted as her counsel, Sen. De Lima said that President Duterte is doing everything under his power to destroy her because she once humilated him when he was still the mayor of Davao City.

Shortly, presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said that “Senator De Lima’s filing of a petition before the Supreme Court is calculated to generate media noise to drown out the accusations against her. By portraying herself as a victim, she seeks to distance herself from the intimate relationshops which were also intertwined with drug trafficking while she was DOJ Secretary.”

Later, a copy of Mayor Espinosa’s affidavit he made last August was posted online. There, he named Sen. De Lima as one of the 50 protectors of his son, Kerwin, whom he admitted as a drug lord. Meanwhile, most of the netizens calling for a huge rally against her said they want her to resign from office, and that they are only waiting for a credible organizer.
