Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Rodrigo Duterte finally admitted that he has a dollar account at Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), as claimed by Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Mar Roxas. Mayor Rody Duterte said that he will personally open it in public this Wednesday, May 4, and that he wants Roxas eat its statement of account.
“Dollar ni Roxas, buksan ko ‘yan Wednesday. Sabi n’ya (Roxas), may dollar account ako na milyon, ako mismo, ‘yan lang dalawa talaga eh.” Mayor Duterte told reporters shortly after his plane arrived at Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur this Monday, May 2. He was then asked if he will also willing open his BPI bank dollar account.
“Oo. Yung kay Roxas. Pero gusto ko, kainin ni Roxas. Gusto ko, pagkatapos, kainin ni Roxas ang statement ng bangko. Ipakain ko sa kanya.” The tough-talking mayor replied. And although he did not reveal the amout deposited in that dollar account, he earlier mentioned it contains $5,000, and that it was his savings some time ago.

Last Friday, Mar Roxas showed a BPI dollar bank deposit slip to the media, noting that his camp deposited $10 (around P460) to it. The said deposit slip revealed that the deposit was made a 3:06 p.m. at the BPI Julia Vargas branch. The account number is 002434-0159-71, with Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Sara Z. Duterte as the names of the account holder.

Roxas said they made a deposit to that account to verfiy the allegations of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV. He said his camp has also confirmed that this dollar account is only one of the alleged seven joint accounts of Mayor Rody and his daughter, Inday Sara Duterte. As of posting, Roxas has not yet commented on Duterte’s challenged.
This Monday, Atty. Salvador Panelo, Mayor Rody Duterte’s legal counsel, and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV met at BPI Julia Vargas branch. Trillanes brought his affidavit, stating tha his source of information is a certain Joseph de Mesa, a former Duterte supporter and has contacts in investigating ill-gotten wealth of government officials.

On the other hand, Atty. Panelo brought a Special Power of Attorney, which authorizes him to ask for a certification from BPI Julia Vargas branch all the details about Duterte’s bank account. Trillanes said this account has at least P211 million, but Duterte denied it. BPI said they will release the certification in seven business days.
