Duterte to CBCP: I Was Sexually Abused by a Priest When I Was Young

Duterte vs CBCP

Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte said this Tuesday, December 1, 2015 that he was sexually abused by a priest when he was still young. The 70-year old tough-talking presidential candidate even challenged the CBCP (Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines) to a debate and reveal the dark secrets of the Catholic Church.

“I would trace them to my younger years in the Ateneo (de Davao). It will destroy the church and the present status of so many priests and what they are doing. “[Kami] sa Ateneo noon and I will tell you the abuses committed against the minors at that time including me and I will tell you my story. Kaming lahat dumaan kami.” Mayor Duterte told reporters in ambush interview.

“Look, kayong mga pari, kayong mga bishop, you condemn me and
you suggest that I will withdraw and I will withdraw but then I will start to open my mouth. There are so many secreta na kaming mga bata pa tinataguan namin wag nyo kaming pilitin because itong relihyon na ito is not so sacred.” He added, noting that there are also some corrupt priests inside the church, but did not elaborate the details.

Duterte’s statements come after the CBCP president Archbishop Socrates Villegas slammed him for cursing Pope Francis this Monday, November 30 during his proclamation as the official standard-bearer of Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban). The tough mayor then recalled his 5-hour experience being stuck in traffic when the pontiff visited the country last January.

“Sabi ko, ‘Bakit?’ Sabi sarado na [ang daan]. Sabi ko, ‘Sinong darating?’ Sabi si Pope. Gusto kong tawagan, ‘Pope, p*****ina ka, umuwi ka na. ‘Wag ka nang bumisita dito,” (I said, why? They said the road is closed. I said, ‘Who will pass?’ They said it’s Pope (Francis). I want to call him and tell him, ‘Pope, you son of a b**ch, you go home. Don’t visit us again.) Mayor Duterte said.

Tuesday morning, Villegas used his Facebook page to criticized Duterte, saying that “the world desperately needs a leadership by example. Killing is a crime and a sin whether it is done by criminals or public officials no matter what the intention. Adultery is corruption. It makes married love cheap and uses people for pleasure.”

“Adultery corrupts the family; it destroys children and victimizes the weak. Vulgarity is corruption. When we find vulgarity funny, we have really become beastly and barbaric as a people. When a revered and loved and admired man like Pope Francis is cursed by a political candidate and the audience laugh, I can only bow my head and grieve in great shame.” Villegas wrote on his Facebook page.

A few hours Mayor Duterte’s allegations that he was abused by a priest, his Facebook page explained his side on his cursing Pope Francis. According to the post, Duterte regrets his action of disrespect to Pope Francis, noting that it is only his way to express his disappointment over the government’s incompetence in solving the worst traffic in Metro Manila.
