Duterte Allies Now Bothered by Impeachment Complaint vs President Duterte, Sen Trillanes Says

The allies of President Rodrigo Duterte are now bothered by the impeachment complaint filed against him. This is according to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, who is a staunch critic of the president. His ally, Magdalo Rep Gary Alejano file the impeachment complaint against President Duterte this Thursday, March 16, at the House of Representatives.

“The way the Duterte allies are reacting shows how truly bothered they are by the impeachment complaint.” Sen. Trillanes said in a text message to Inquirer this Friday. In his earlier statement, the soldier-turned politician said that as part of the Magdalo, he supports Alejano’s move, and that it is the last venue that President Duterte has to face.

“Too bad for them, they can’t railroad its dismissal until the resumption of session in May. By then, a lot of things would have happened. A lot of things could happen in two months that could be a game-changer in this impeachment complaint,” the Liberal Party (LP) inclined senator added, who also accused President Duterte of undeclared wealth.

Trillanes’ reaction came after House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said that “We are all entitled to our own stupidity,” referring to the filing of impeachment complaint vs Duterte. He added that it is very unlikely to pass the House not only because of majority of congressmen are pro-Duterte, but also because the said complaint has no basis at all.

Based on the impeachment complaint, President Duterte culpably violated the Constitution, engaged in bribery, betrayed public trust, committed graft and corruption, and other high crimes. The president was also allegedly involved in the EJKs (extra-judicial killings) when he was still the mayor of Davao City, by the so-called Davao Death Squad (DDS).
