Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte Caught Overspeeding, Explains Why He Was Driving Fast

Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte

Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, the eldest son of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte, was apprehended for overspeeding in his own city. Nevertheless, he publicly admitted his mistake and even posted a photo of the Temporary Operator’s Permit (TOP) from the Land Transportation Office (LTO). He also explained why he was then driving that fast.

On his official Facebook page this Friday, June 17, Pulong Duterte wrote in Visayan. As translated to English, he said he was caught driving at 57kph and received a ticket for overspeeding. He noted that the limit along Bangkal Street where he was caught is only 40kph. He added he was rushing home because his wife was mad at him, and he was afraid of her.

In October 2013, then Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte issued Executive Order No. 39 wherein Section 1 lists the speed limit allowed in particular areas in the city. Vehicles are only allowed to drive at a speed of from 30 kph to 60 kph, depending on the location. Since then, this policy is strictly being implemented and no one is above the law.

In a comment to his post, Pulong Duterte noted that it is the first time that he went overspeeding and was apprehended. Nevertheless, his sister, Inday Sara Duterte was also apprehended for overspeeding in January 2014. The now incoming Davao City mayor was said to also have driving at 57kph, beyong the speed limit of 40 kph.
