Binibining Pilipinas International 2017 winner Mariel de Leon this Wednesday, May 10 defended herself from bashers. This is after she was heavily criticized on Twitter, when she expressed her disappointment on Mocha Uson’s appointment as assistant secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCCO).
“As a Filipina, as a citizen of this country, I have opinions about our government and the way it’s run. Everyone has that right. I just felt like I should put it out there, since now I have a voice,” Mariel de Leon said in an interview with GMA News’ News To Go, a day after she tweeted that Mocha Uson does not deserve her cabinet post.
“I am secure with myself, and with that, no kind of negativity gets to me. So, I respect their opinion, but of course there’s a way to debate and argue issues. You don’t need to insult other people. They can say what they say, I’ll still voice my opinions.” De Leon added, who won the Bb. Pilipinas International title on April 30.

“I love my country so it breaks my heart to know someone like her got a position in the govt.” Mariel de Leon tweeted this Tuesday, as a reply to a tweet asking her opinion about Mocha Uson being appointed as PCCO assistant secretary, adding that the latter is biased and insults people who are against her views.
“There are so many other unbiased, educated, and respected (and respectful) people who deserve her place. There are so many other unbiased, educated, and respected (and respectful) people who deserve her place. I’m not for [Mocha], I’m not for the other side (whatever that may be), I am for the truth and I am for my country.” She added.
“I hope that change will come. And I hope that I can use my voice and my platform to be part of that change. Fake and biased news will just bring our country down deeper than the dirt on our feet. Politics and corruption is poison for the soul of our country.” The 23-year old daughter of veteran actors Christopher De Leon and Sandy Andolong tweeted.
Uson, a known supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, has more than 5 million Facebook followers. For her new post as PCCO assistant secretary, she is expected to receive a monthly basic gross salary of P106,454, plus allowances as declared by the 2017 General Appropriations Act (GAA), and benefits just like other government employees.
