AlDub Rejects P100-Million Offer to Campaign for Mar Roxas in 2016, Report Says
The phenomenal AlDub love team of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza (aka Yaya Dub) rejected a P100-million offer from Mar Roxas’ camp in exchange of their endorsement to his candidacy in the 2016 presidential election. This is according to Bulgar entertainment columnist Ambet Nabus, who was quoted at Politics.com.ph in their recent report.
“Dahil may ‘rule’ para sa AlDub na walang pulitika at mga pulitikong dapat suportahan sa 2016 elections, regrets o declined umano ang mga naturang offers,” Nabus was quoted in the report. He added that there are also rumors that the camp of presidentiable, VP Jejomar Binay also offered a nine-figure fee to AlDub for their support to him in 2016, but was also rejected.
(Because there is a ‘rule’ for AlDub not to be involved in politics and will not support any politician in the 2016 election, those offers have been declined.)
Nabus is referring to the earlier statement of Sen. Tito Sotto that AlDub will not endorse any political candidate in the upcoming election, include him. Sotto, who is one of the main hosts of Eat Bulaga, will run for reelection in 2016. The senator added that two presidentiables offered juicy fees to AlDub but were rejected. However, he did not reveal names and amount of offer.
“I am setting the example so that politicians will know we mean it. And we do not want our Dabarkads (gang) to be politicized,” Sen. Tito Sotto said that time, noting that he wants to be known as a serious candidate. His political career started when he was elected as Quezon City Vice Mayor from 1988 to 1992. He is seeking for his fourth term as a senator.
Back in August, netizens and AlDub Nation got furious on then-Interior Secretary Mar Roxas when he mentioned AlDub in an interview, saying that “Parang si AlDub lang yan e, hashtag may tamang panahon. So mangyayari at mangyayari yan sa tamang panahon,” (It’s just like AlDub, hashtag ‘right time.’ So, this will eventually happen at the right time.) That time, he was referring to his possible tandem with Senator Grace Poe as his running mate in 2016.
So far, Alden and Maine have done three Mcdonald’s commercials and other product endorsements. Their ‘Sa Tamang Panahon’ event held in Philippine Arena last October 24 created a new Twitter record. The hashtag #ALDubEBTamangPanahon had 41 million tweets from October 23 to October 25, beating the 2014 hashtag #WorldCup that had 35.6 million tweets.
Alden Richards has already denied that AlDub was offered P100 million to campaign for Mar Roxas. In a report by TV5, the Pambansang Bae said there was no such hefty offer. However, he said that during the first two months of the Kalyeserye, some political parties approached him but he declined the offer. The New5 Everywhere reporter also said that Liberal Party chairman for political affairs and Caloocan City Representative Edgar Erice is also denying the P100-million offer to AlDub.
