The abusive taxi driver who recently went beast mode with his female passenger has been identified. This is after a certain Joanna A.Garcia uploaded a video on Facebook, showing him shouting and threatening her. And although he said he is sorry for his misbehavior, he denied being high on drugs when the untoward incident happened.
As reported at ABS-CBN News, the name of the beast mode taxi driver is Roger Catipay, 37 years old. He and his taxi operator went to the office of the LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board) this Wednesday morning, January 6, 2016 after they received a summon. But in an interview with DZMM, he did not give any further details.
“Sa abogado ko na lang ipapaliwanag. Kinakabahan po ako. Nabigla lang po ako.” (I’ll just explain my side to my lawyer. I’m nervous. I’m still at shock.) Roger Catipay said, noting that he is married and has three children, including a baby. He said he has driven various vehicles since he was 18, and that he has been a driver of the said taxi (Plate # UWB666) for 1-2 years.

“Opo, kung kailangan po. Tao lang po tayo, nagkakasala. Pasensiya na lang po. Kung ano ang dapat, kung may kasalanan po ako, haharapin ko po,” (Yes, if necessary. I’m only human, I make mistakes. I’m very sorry. Whatever the consequences, if I’m found guilty, I will face it.) The now soft-spoken taxi driver added, noting that he’s willing to apologize personally to Garcia.
Nevertheless, Catipay categorically denied that he took drugs on the day the incident happened. He emphasized that he had enough sleep, and that he has just started his 24-hour shift when he picked up Garcia and her companion. On the last part, he said he badly needed money but he is willing to accept any punishment, including having his driver’s license suspended.

You can also hear him complaining that the fare should be P300 but is willing to receive P250 only. However, Garcia said they did not have an agreement, and that the taxi meter should be used instead.
