ABS-CBN to Air Anti-Duterte Ads Worth P20 Million, Cayetano Warns Public

ABS-CBN anti Duterte ads

ABS-CBN is seto to air anti-Duterte ads worth P20 million this Friday, May 6, three days before the 2016 presidential elections. This is according to the warning to the public by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte’s running mate. This is allegedly the last strategy to destroy the reputation of the front running presidentiable.

“The mayor’s rivals are obviously afraid, and so they are resorting to these cheap stunts to try and bring his image down.” Sen. Cayetano was quoted at Inquirer, without mentioning any name of the possible ‘brain’ of the alleged anti-Duterte advertisements at ABS-CBN. He did not also the name of the source of his information.

“They are so desperate that, aside from the full barrage of trimedia attacks against Mayor Duterte, they are now trying to push for millions in advertisements in major networks in the last few days of the campaign.” The vice-presidential candidate added, noting that the tempting offer was alsol made to other TV networks but they declined.

Apparently, a similar warning was made by Cecile Zamora-Van Straten, a columnist at Philippine Star and the blogger of Chuvaness.com. “Inside info: P20M worth of anti-Duterte spots to be aired for one night only by ABS-CBN on Friday. It was rejected by other station.” Cecile Zamora-Van Straten (@chuvaness) tweeted this Wednesday, May 4.

Duterte, who was recently endorsed by the Iglesia ni Cristo along with vice-presidential candidate, Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., continues to lead in various surveys including that of the latest Pulse Asia survey commissioned by ABS-CBN. The tough-talking mayor enjoyed 33 percent, followed by Mar Roxas who had 22 percent.

This is despite the allegations of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV that Mayor Rody Duterte had ill-gotten properties, and huge peso and dollar bank accounts at Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Julia Vargas branch. This Wednesday, Duterte revealed his BPI bank accounts, and proved that the vice-presidentiable is not telling the truth.

The Kapamilya network is being noted to be close to the Aquino administration. On the other hand, Korina Sanchez, Mar Roxas’ wife, is a long-time broadcaster at ABS-CBN. Earlier, many Kapamilya stars endorsed Roxas for president. As of posting, ABS-CBN has not yet commented on the alleged P20-milllion anti-Duterte ads.
