5 Scary Reasons Why Senator Grace Poe Will Not be a Great President

FPJ Senator Grace Poe Susan Roces

Being a huge fan of Fernando Poe Jr (FPJ) since the late 70s, I have watched all his movies on the first hour of the first day of showing. I also don’t believe that Senator Grace Poe is the daughter of the late president Ferdinand Marcos and former actress Rosemarie Sonora, who happens to be the sister of Susan Roces.

I was saddened when FPJ ran for president in 2004. I must admit, I didn’t vote for him because I believe that he lacks experience. And yes, I believe that he was cheated by Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. But deep inside, I’m very happy that he did not win the presidency because I think he will only be used by greedy politicians.

After FPJ’s sudden death, I expected Grace Poe to stay long here in the Philippines to continue his father’s legacy. When President Noynoy Aquino appointed her as MTRCB chairperson, I knew that she will be joining politics later. I even sensed that she will win the 2013 senatorial election with flying colors, and I was right.

Now that the 2016 presidential election is less than a year away, it seems that Sen. Grace Poe is eager to run for president. And yes, I have a strong feeling that she will not run for vice president. I also have this intuition that she can win the election and will easily beat VP Jejomar Binay and DILG Secretary Mar Roxas.

So, let’s assume that Senator Grace Poe will run for president in 2016 and will win. With her extreme popularity that she should thank FPJ for, she will be hard to beat. However, here are five scary reasons why she will not be a great president, and will not even be better than PNoy or any past presidents for that matter.

#1 She will be a non-Filipino president

Yes, you read it right. While some of her critics are saying that Sen. Grace Poe is an American citizen, it is very much clear to me that she is not a Filipino, at least by heart. Let’s not forget that she left the Philippines in the late 1980s and she only returned in 2003 to help FPJ in his campaign. She only decided to stay her for good in December 2004 after FPJ died. Therefore, she has no solid idea of how to live as a Filipino.

#2 She will be a cheating president

Article VII, Section 2 of the Constitution clearly states that “no person may be elected President unless he is a resident of the Philippines for at least ten years immediately preceding such election.” In a recent news report, a photocopy of Poe’s Certificate of Candidacy (COC) during the 2013 senatorial elections surfaced. There, it stated that she has been staying in the country for six years and six months only. Now, do the math.

#3 She will not be a tough president

Let’s say that she has no problems with her residency as well as her nationality. Let’s assume that she will be the duly elected president in 2016 and will win by landslide just like Erap did. Can she handle the pressure of fighting China regarding the disputed territories? How can she deal with the military? Does she have the iron fist against corruption, terrorism and crimes? Can she attract foreign investors? No, I don’t think so.

#4 She will be a puppet president

It does not need a half brain to say that Sen. Grace Poe lacks knowledge and experience. Being a senator for three years is by far different from being a president for six years. And because of that, she will need a battalion of advisers, wherein most of them will be the traditional politicians. In fact, she does not even have a solid political party. So what do we expect to happen next? It’s crystal clear; she will be a puppet president.

#5 She could be worse than the late President Cory Aquino

Back in 1986, there was no other potential candidate that would beat Marcos except Cory Aquino. So, the opposition used her and eventually became successful. But we all know that the country did not become better, simply because we had an inexperienced president. Comparing President Cory and Senator Grace Poe, we all can conclude that the latter is even worst. She does not even have honest politicians on her side.

Please don’t get me wrong, I respect Senator Grace Poe. I voted for her not because I’m an FPJ fan; I voted for her because I felt her sincerity. But being a president of a country is not about continuing a legacy; it’s a very huge responsibility. It’s not something you dream 10 or 15 years ago; it’s something you planned for since you are a child. Will she think of coming back to the Philippines if FPJ did not run in 2004? I doubt it.

Yes, Senator Poe might be a good president. But what we need now is a great one, someone who can lead the country to stop Filipinos from leaving their families to work abroad. We need a president who can frighten the criminals and corrupt officials. We need a leader who can decide what kind of defense forces we need in case of war. I even think she can’t stop Recto University from selling fake school records and diplomas.

So to our beloved Senator Grace Poe, if you really want to continue the dream of your father, you should learn the lessons of history first. If you really love our country and you want to leave a great mark in our history, please don’t run for president in 2016. The Filipinos had enough; don’t be an additional burden. I hate saying this, but I think Senator Poe will not be a great president…not this early…maybe in 2022.
