Vice President Jejomar Binay and Sen. Grace Poe are almost tied in a latest presidential election survey conducted by IBON Foundation, a non-profit research and development institution that has been serving the Filipinos since 1978. Apparently, the third spot went to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte.
According to IBON Foundation, the survey had 1,496 participants who were not given a list of presidential candidates in the 2016 election. Instead, they were asked to name their preferred president. The said survey was conducted from May 13 to 23, 2015, and a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3 percent.
Based on the result, VP Binay leads with 13.8 percent of the respondent. Immediately after him was Senator Grace Poe with 13.7 percent. And just like other surveys, Mayor Rody Duterte landed on the third spot, with 7.6 percent of the respondents. Among them, only Binay has been vocal in running for president in 2016.
Surprisingly, President Noynoy Aquino landed on the fourth spot. With 4.2 percent of the survey participants said they want PNoy to run again. The fifth spot went to DILG Secretary Mar Roxas, earning the votes of 3.8 percent of the respondents. Roxas was supposed to run for president in 2010, but he gave way to PNoy.
Interestingly, VP Binay has been leading in various 2016 presidential surveys despite the strong allegations of corruptions being thrown against him. Recently, there were reports that former president and now Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada would run as vice president for Binay, but the former later denied it.
For Senate Grace Poe, her crtitics have been questioning her citizenship, for being young in politics and government leadership. The neophyte senator has not really formally announced her plans in 2016, but many political experts believe that she would run, to continue the dreams of her father, Fernando Poe, Jr.
Just like PNoy, Mayor Rody Duterte has mentioned many times that he will not run for president in 2016. This is despite the fact that he can be touring in Visayas and Mindanao, campaigning for federalism. He is known for this strong leadership, especially against crimes. His supporters are continuing to convince him to run.
Here at TN, we try to avoid engaging in political campaign. However, we must remind our fellow Filipinos that at this point of our economic status, we need a great president who can bravely face the challenges. Not to mention, crimes are everywhere and corruption is vulgar. Therefore, we don’t need clowns to run our country.
